Diet And Fitness
Sunday, March 16th, 2008 by CarolThe overall weight of a proportion of Western countries citizens may be rising significantly but the pursuit of health and fitness products and programs seems to be following suit. Health and fitness magazines may be to blame but perhaps it is also a desire to improve the way we look in a very image conscious society that we live in. Health clubs, gyms and many others have as a consequence become much busier and the trend looks to continue.
We are all be urged to become more responsible about our fitness generally so it is no surprise that there has been an increase in the amount of interest shown. What isn’t given enough emphasis though is the responsibility we all have to eat healthy as part of this regime and not just to expect exercise and fitness to be a cure-all.
Diet and fitness are as essential as exercise itself as they provide the essential nutrition we need to restore worn-out muscles and for healthy growth as a result they should never be taken for granted. The subject is broad and many different, often opposing, opinions are aimed at us and because of this it is often confusing deciding on which course of action to take like the high-carb versus the high-fat debate which seems to continue without being resolved.
To understand this better you need to know that the high-carbohydrate followers believe that you need to eat foods rich in carbohydrates to exercise well and the opposition believe you need to consume foods high in fat. The high-carb enthusiasts say that we need these sorts of foods because the glucose (or energy) is stored in the muscles and liver in the form of glycogen which is great for short burst of energy or any type of anaerobic exercise.
Whereas, fat is a rich source of calories with two and a half times more than proteins and carbohydrates whilst fat metabolizes in an eighth of the time it does for carbohydrates. So a person can follow a high-carb and low fat fitness diet or the other way around but it is not recommended to follow both at the same time; unless of course if you want to gain body fat.
If your aim is to lose body fat then you will need to stick to a diet fitness routine but remember this is not just a short term goal. To achieve this, research has shown that you need to think about how you are currently living your life which includes the type of food you like to eat and if there are any medical considerations.
Just losing weight is not the issue as many overweight individuals manage to do this but if the diet doesn’t suit them they pile it all back on, so the trick is to organize a diet that exactly fits your needs and maintain a moderation to what you eat. It would be easy just to eat only the things we liked but not in such large quantities but we need to maintain a balance so our bodies receive the nutrients and vitamins necessary for good health.
Finding the right diet fitness program that matches your needs and ensures you stay on it are the hardest part of this but if you can manage it, you will have found a way to stay fit and healthy for a very long time.
