Fitness Clubs
Monday, November 5th, 2007 by CarolIf you are serious about getting fit then it is often preferable to do this a gym or fitness club as having other people around you can be a great motivator. However, you need to asses what your priorities are and try to find a club that will meet these needs. However, there are matters to think about in regard to the type of gym you need to look for before you join the gym of your choice.
Without doubt the number one point is the location because if it isn’t near your place of work or home you will not keep up your attendance. You must be comfortable with your trainer and be happy that they are professional and have sufficient experience to train you.
Always inform your physical trainer if you require any special attention or have any limitations they need to know about in advance. Ask the staff what additional services are available; how they treat you will give you a good idea how enthusiastic and professional they are in their work.
Some facilities have their own dietician and physical therapists that can offer additional services. Flexibility of opening is important as the longer a fitness club is open during the day, the less chance there is of it becoming too crowded.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a free lesson to assess whether it is what you want, this is normally a request most clubs will be happy to grant. It may seem like a minor point but if the club doesn’t have sufficient training equipment to go around, queues are likely to form and that is when people start to leave.
The sign of a good fitness club is well maintained machines so look to see if there are any that are not working and if there are, try to find out how long they have been that way. Almost all fitness clubs have a healthy social calendar and this is a good time to get an invitation before you join and perhaps meet few people you might be able to get on with when you’re training.
Checking the cost of membership is probably the last thing you need to do but you also need to find out if they increase it regularly every year and if there are any other costs they haven’t told you about. Visit more than one fitness club; make up a list, preferably at least three to take a look at, perhaps at different price levels as it will be worth your while to see what’s available.
Choosing a fitness club is just like shopping on the best shirt for you so don’t be pressured or contact them right away; take your time to review and gather enough information if you are still not sure which one to choose.
